It is no secret that the two supper stars Big Zulu and Sjava have impacted the music industry in ways no one who sings in vernacular will ever do in the next upcoming years. They both made sure that they keep their cultures alive while they made good music for the South African people and consequently for the International audience too. This can be heard throughout their music.
Although the two stars are known for their contribution to music and their culture, they are also known for their appearance. Ever since the stars showed up in the music industry game, they have never shaved off their beards or hair. They remain as natural as can be. Many people have been wondering why this is so and assumed different things. This habit of not shaving or grooming their hair has had people confused about their age.
Believe it or not, both Sjava and Big Zulu are in their early 30s. This means that none of them is over 35 years of age yet. This has surprised a lot of people since their appearance is of an older man who grew up in a different culture. The starts both grew up in the villages of KwaZulu-Natal and have made it clear in their music. They both refer to them selves as “Inkabi”, which is like a term for Zulu gangster.
Sjava’s real name is Jabulani Hadebe, and he is 34 years old. Most people didn’t believe it. He has said it in his songs that he serves ” Shembe”, which is a church that believes and staying as pure as possible. They believe that there is great power in the hair, hence they do not shave or groom any of their hair. Sjava has gotten a lot of backlash over his lack of grooming ever since he came into the scene but no one really understood why he was like that.
The imali eningi hitmaker Big Zulu has been one that followed in the same mannerisms as Sjava. His real name is Siyabonga Nene and despite his looks, he is 32 years of age. Many denied this age as he looked way older than that behind all that hair and lack of grooming. When you throw in his dressing sense, it adds an extra 10 years to his actual age. He, too, has voiced out the fact that it is his culture to remain as manly as possible.
According to him a real man never alters his natural self. This is why he keeps his hair as is and never really shaves as it shows that he is a real man and not a boy chasing clout by looking all fancy. He has been I shaved for many years, in fact, he has never been seen without his beard. He truly believes in keeping his Zulu culture alive and being a man around a world full of boys made by American influence.
